Shirin Neshat
March 20 - June 1, 2003
Upper Level Gallery
This exhibition offers visitors an unprecedented opportunity to experience
in depth the work of celebrated Iranian-born artist Shirin Neshat.
The exhibition features photographic work and six of Neshat’s
internationally acclaimed video-and-sound environments, including Soliloquy,
Pulse and Passage and the trilogy Turbulent, Rapture, and Fervor. Neshat’s
powerfully cinematic images, combined with careful choreography and
mesmerizing music, communicate universal ideas about how identity
is shaped by differences in gender and culture.
Organized by the Musée d'art contemporain de
Montréal
and curated by Paulette Gagnon. The American tour of the exhibition
is sponsored by the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications
du Québec. In Miami, the exhibition is supported by MAM’s
Annual Exhibition Fund and coordinated by Curator Lorie Mertes. Additional
support received from the Funding Arts Network.
