Big Juicy Paintings (and more): Selections From the Permanent Collection
June 16, 2006 – September 17, 2006
Upper Level Gallery

For this exhibition, MAM turns its largest exhibition space over to its rapidly growing permanent collection. The installation presents a number of important large-scale works that have not been seen in several years and a host of new acquisitions, including two works acquired for the museum by MAM’s new Collectors Council. Among the new acquisitions are Fernando Botero’s Still Life, Fabian Marcaccio’s From Raging Aggression to Decoration, Sarah Morris’ Cinerama [Los Angeles] and groups of recently donated works by Joseph Cornell and Purvis Young. A highlight of the exhibition is Arturo Herrera’s large-scale wall painting, When Alone Again III, recently given to the museum by the Collectors Council. Works from MAM’s collection are supplemented by key loans from area private collections. Featured in the exhibition are works by Cecily Brown, Maria Fernanda Cardoso, Edouard Duval-Carrié, Lynn Golub Gelfman, Morris Louis, Odili Donald Odita, Enrique Martínez Celaya, Gavin Perry, Gerhard Richter, Sean Scully and Frank Stella.
