cover of James Rosenquist catalog

James Rosenquist
Published by Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, 2003
Hardcover, 472 pages / color illustrations
ISBN: 0892072679

An internationally recognized artist since his emergence on the New York art scene in the early 1960s, James Rosenquist was a leading player in the American Pop movement. He began painting as a commercial billboard painter in the Midwest and later developed his own brand of the "new realist" style by fragmenting, combining, and juxtaposing images from advertising onto large-scale canvases. The results are complex, enigmatic paintings that comment on popular culture from a global perspective, addressing social, political, and economic concerns and the environmental fate of the planet. James Rosenquist served as the catalog for the Guggenheim Museum's critically-acclaimed retrospective.

Miami Art Museum is presenting an exhibition of Rosenquist's work March 3-July 2, 2006.

Art Now, 137 Artists at the Rise of the New Millennium

Jim Lambie: Vodoid
Essay by Rob Tufnell

Scottish artist Jim Lambie’s involvement in the Glasgow music scene has considerable influence on his work. Like music, visual art can fill a space and change the way we perceive our surroundings as well as ourselves. It can produce altered states of mind. Using vibrantly colored tapes that follow the contours of a room, Lambie's installations transform and energize gallery spaces.
